Watch Crystal Castles performance on Skins HERE
"Wholeheartedly brilliant." Artrocker
"Imagine if everything The Knife did was as pleasant as 'Heartbeats', and you're still nowhere near the spellbinding compositions of this forward-thinking duo." Mixmag
Following on from the cult success of previous underground singles including December’s ‘Air War’, Toronto’s finest, Crystal Castles return with the lead-in to their debut album.
‘Courtship Dating’ is a beautiful love song about taxidermy and finds them on a more ambient infused tip. It features Alice’s harrowing vocals over Ethan’s acid damaged beats, which are spasmodically interrupted by a series of bleeps, screams and general waywardness.
Whilst the band continue to ride high in the electronic underground they have simultaneously enjoyed strong support at Radio 1 with both Zane Lowe and Jo Whiley championing their sound on previous releases.
With this single, they have secured a spot on BBC2’s primetime music show Sound, were nominated to perform on Lily Allen’s show and have been selected to appear on this series of Skins - following in the footsteps of The Gossip and Foals.
As one of this years most exciting and cutting edge bands with over 4.5 million plays on their myspace page, on the strength of three 7"'s alone, 'Courtship Dating' will undoubtedly see Crystal Castles pushing further into the mainstreams' consciousness whilst continuing to keep their hardcore, internet-bred fans perfectly happy.
Their true nihilistic aesthetic and musical diversity really comes to life with the live show. This formidable live legacy is cemented in the debris of past shows, which have consisted of crippled stage barriers, punishing electronics and menacing strobes.
Crystal Castles are heading back to the UK for a full headline tour in May.
With this and the release of ‘Courtship Dating’, the rise and rise of Crystal Castles continues…
