Record Store Day 2010: David's Music

Record Store Day at David's was off the chain. We had a queue out the front from around 6:30 on the morning and it had grown to around a hundred odd people by the time we opened at 9:00. It was more of a rush than we'd expected, but we had a pretty solid system in place to make sure that folks got as much of what they were after as was possible and fair.

The initial rush lasted until around 11:00, and we managed to get through it with only one person being threatened with physical violence (for pushing in front a nabbing the last Beatles single) and only one person trying to immediately sell something on to someone else after buying it. Needless to say, both incidents were dealt with and no blood was spilt or illegitimate money changed hands...

The whole day was brilliant - loads of homemade cakes and live music kept the early crowds in the shop until the afternoon and the releases of course were stella. Overall it was a really reaffirming day - proof positive that when the record companies get on board and release the product, people will come to indies and buy it. Sales were through the roof, regulars left happy and loads of new faces promised they'd be back. Unbelievable - bring on next year.
