Chicago Underground Duo Free Download from their new album

Chicago Underground Duo release their stunning new album 'Boca Negra' on Thrill Jockey Records, combining jazz with electronics and post rock to devastating effect, creating a sound that is alive with skilled musicianship and intelligent production work.

Chicago Underground Duo are Rob Mazurek (Exploding Star Orchestra, Sao Paulo Underground, Mandarin Movie) and Chad Taylor (Iron and Wine, Marc Ribot, and so forth) and this is their fifth release together. Recorded in Sao Paulo, Brazil, this is a record that shows the two at the peak of their abilities, mixing improvised with the composed, powerful grooves with ambient song structures and high energy polyrhythmic bursts with slow moving melodic ballads. It is also the first of their records to contain a cover, that being Ornette Coleman's 'Broken Shadows'.

For anyone not familiar with the band's work, Mojo once described them as "What Miles might have sounded like if he'd jammed with Tortoise" ...high praise indeed!

Some past praise for Chicago Underground Duo....
"if you're in any way interested in atmospheric, exploratory music that creates worlds as it progresses, seek Boca Negra out." - BBC, "Chicago Underground Duo invoke a collision of early 1970s jazz fusion and precision engineered post-rock...sounding like a less sparse Miles Davis jamming with deftly programmed robots" - Sunday Times, "Mazurek is a player of great poise and elegance, while Taylor's deftness, imagination and formidable technical skill always make his playing a joy to listen to...." - The Wire
