The Lovebox Weekender
LOVEBOX: A REAL FESTIVAL EXPERIENCE IN LONDON
Created by festival die-hards, genuine music fanatics and a seriously creative collective that includes the team behind Glastonbury's Lost Vagueness and Trash City and featuring diverse and inspiring line-ups performing on bespoke stages and spectacular arenas amongst the trees on 25 acres of East London’s oldest park; Lovebox’s stated aim is offer an experience way beyond any other so-called festival in every aspect starting with, in the words of Timothy Leary, “set and setting”.
With day tickets and weekend tickets both available you can enjoy a a unique dazzling festival of live music, club, foodie, performance treats and much much more for as little as £38.50; saving yourself the experience of muddy tents and compromised hygiene. And if you don’t live in London you can combine it with the benefits of bars, shops, restaurants, hotels, galleries and museums of one of the world’s greatest capitals while benefiting from all the transport links that it affords.
World class line-up –hot new things and living legends
Everyone at Lovebox HQ has gigged themselves to death since last year, tirelessly handpicking acts from beyond the festival fodder; coming up with nothing but the best unsigned and upcoming bands alongside some living legends, heroes and true progenitors for Lovebox's 7th year. Your 2008 eclectic musical programme covers all bases from dance & electronica through to indie, rock, world, latin jazz, funk, soul and hip-hop. The only remit is GREAT MUSIC and there's not a ringer on site.
Lovebox are very proud to welcome the legendary Manu Chao; internationally acclaimed world music artist who has sold over 3 million records and played to crowds of 100,000 all over the world. A huge Latin American star, he's been described by the likes of the Daily Telegraph as 'global pop's most important star' and Lovebox will be the first and only time fans will be able to see him perform in London this summer.
Following last year's sold out extravaganza, 2008 also sees headline performances from Oklahoma City's finest The Flaming Lips with their only London show of the year; joining them will be the electro-cum-folk Goddess Goldfrapp in one of only 2 UK festival appearances in 2008 and with tracks from her amazing new album.
Of course the show would not be complete without a turn from mighty Groove Armada, and as the hosts of the show they will perform an amazing new live show, fresh for '08. Throw in The Human League, for a retro-electro master class, and London Town's very own Jack Penate....
Plus more live acts and DJs Alela Diane, Alphabeat, Ame, The Black Seeds, Buraka Som Sistema, Cage The Elephant, Damian Lazarus, Das Pop, Dengue Fever, Disculpos Do Otilia, DJ Mehdi, The Dynamics, Easy Star All-Stars, Eats Tapes, Ebony Bones, Errors, Fat 45s, The Flaming Lips, Frankie Knuckles, Glimmers, The Go! The Stages
Arguably we spend too much time, cash and effort on making the rural backdrop of Victoria Park the prettiest, most creative, and sometimes a bit bonkers, festival site in the UK. We draw inspiration from The Burning Man, Ibiza's Space, Fuji Rock and Coachella for many different reasons and view Lovebox as an evolving event, never complacent and never tired.
While the musos have been busy musing, the crusties, stage designers, set builders and riggers have been hatching plans and designs to bring THE most spectacular venues seen in any London park ever. This year will see the biggest ever film set installation - a 1 acre street scene from 1970's downtown Brooklyn created by the team behind Glastonbury's Lost Vagueness and Trash City which will include Horsemeat Disco's seedy Downlow venue, an outdoor stage, bars, shops and the country's largest Vert Ramp.
Main Stage. BIG stage, BIG acts, all whom share our values; integrity, creative genius, love and peace. We try very hard to apply these to everything we do which is why Lovebox is putting the heart and soul back into festivals.
Gaymers Great Escape. Europe's leading new music festival delivering the finest Indie bands under the lantern lit trees, within the dingly dell.
Club Cult presents Strangelove. Punchdrunk collaborators Gideon Reeling host Club Cult's incredible dance music adaptation of Stanley Kubrick's iconic film featuring a staggering recreation of the infamous Pentagon War Room set
Horse Meat Disco Downlow. Not shady; just fierce. Come and kiki with Horse Meat Disco and dream disco guests in a downtown tenement block.
The Stockade. Part wild-west saloon / part alpine glade; a purpose-built woodland fortress beneath a clutch of Victoria Park's oldest oak trees.
Drift Stage. Grab a cider and a roast pork bun before listening to some of the most culturally diverse (and hilarious) bands on tour this summer
Fringe Stage & Kids. A glittering line-up including escapologists, unicyclists, high wire performance from Moscow, mime theatre from Toulouse, Jaipurian marching band, jazz jive dance school from the Jazz Cafe, barn dancing. As well as London's most amazing kids entertainments with top Edinburgh festival street theatre and comedy
Sourced Market in association with Metro
Recreating the hustle and bustle, sights and smells and variety of produce at London's Borough Market, the Metro Sourced Market debuts at this year's Lovebox - providing a complimentary range to what the Evening Standard referred to last year as the "best festival food ever seen".
Last.fm/Presents. A whole world of new music you only hoped existed! Last.fm /Presents promotes new and interesting music found on Last.fm's hype chart. Expect anything and everything from Japanese Nintendo folk / secret headline solo outings to no holds barred new wave / post-punk & Italo disco.
All this for £38.50 + BF per day or £65 + BF for the weekend and only a stones throw from the heart of the capital.
