"Whatever deals Robert Johnson struck at the crossroads, it's doubtful even he could have envisaged Son Of Dave." Observer Music Monthly
Fresh from a star turn at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas, exclusive live footage can be seen of trailblazing new-Blues man Son Of Dave on his brand new web blog (CLICK HERE), alongside a running diary from the event. Highlight for Son Of Dave had to be Alabama 3 joining him onstage to molest the blues with him. Diary also features some advice to the young from a man who knows what he’s talking about, and the video for his brand new single ‘Old Times Were Good Times’ is out in March 08. For those who follow his Gonzo-style column in Stool Pigeon, it’s a much-needed fresh fix.
Back to the current job at hand, bringing his music to the masses on the road. Described as a “force of nature” live, Son Of Dave previews music from his brand new album ‘03’, out on Kartel on April 7th, with more UK shows in April and May, including a show at Proud in London, joining Vincent Vincent & The Villains on Wednesday 9th April, followed by eight more UK dates, see below. For a live twist, not many artists can claim to feature as installations in an Art Exhibition, but Son Of Dave's performance at the forthcoming Le Gun exhibition on 10th April at Transit in Shoreditch. The artwork for Son Of Dave's new album '03' was designed by Chris Bianchi from the Le Gun collective, and depicts Son Of Dave live onstage. With the original artwork featuring in the exhibition, Son Of Dave performs live as a real-life enactment of the art piece.
After a decade trawling the live circuit and attracting fans like Neil Young, KT Tunstall, Grace Jones and Supergrass, Son Of Dave found himself an object of affection for the cool tastemaker press on the release of his previous album '02' in 2006. New album '03’ expands his sound. He's still rewriting the Blues, but has added guitar, piano, organ, a plucked cello and backing vocals to the staple looping harmonica, beat-box and foot stomp.
A Son Of Dave track features on one of the nominations for the forthcoming YouTube Awards. Licensed last year, the track 'Goddam' soundtracked a viral Samsung campaign and was the most watched video clip on YouTube for several weeks, leading to frontpage coverage for Son Of Dave on the site on both sides of the Atlantic.
